About the Edition
This 100% superfine cashmere blanket by Jonas Wood is exclusive to House of Voltaire. The artist has worked on this blanket in support of Studio Voltaire's Capital Project. A transformative £2.8 million project now in its exciting final stages, creating 42% more artists’ studios, renovated exhibition space and 233% new public spaces including a dedicated learning space, public garden, café and the first–ever permanent House of Voltaire.
Produced by master Scottish craftspeople, the double–sided jacquard technique achieves a design–rich finish. The front face of the blanket showcases the artist's artwork with a muted birds-eye pattern on the underside. The blanket has a noticeably soft handle and luxurious heavyweight feel.
About the Artist
Jonas Wood (b. 1977, Boston) makes paintings, drawings, and prints that can be classified into a variety of different genres: portraits, still lives, landscapes, and interior scenes. In each of these, his work reflects an instantly recognisable vision of the contemporary world, as well as a personal approach to subject matter defined by his affinities and experiences. Conjuring depth using flat forms–his process involves collage-based studies in which he works with photographs, breaking images apart and reassembling them–Wood probes the boundary between the new and the familiar, integrating emotionally resonant material from everyday life. Jonas Wood has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Dallas Museum of Art (2019); Museum Voorlinden, Wassenaar, Netherlands (with Shio Kusaka, 2017); Lever House, New York (2013); and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2010). Other solo projects include Still life with Two Owls (MOCA), a monumental picture covering the façade of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2016- 2018); Shelf Still Life, High Line, New York (2014); and the Façade at LAXART, Los Angeles (2014). His work is in the permanent collections of many institutions, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo New Work; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Broad, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art; New York; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. In 2019, Phaidon published the first monograph dedicated to Wood's most significant paintings and drawings. Wood lives and works in Los Angeles.
