About the Artist
Alistair Frost’s deft paintings have a carefree confidence that belies their subtle complexity. Looking to mass media and everyday life for his imagery, Frost fuses lowbrow, straightforward subject matter with the processes and techniques of high art, painting checkmarks, tools, shapes, and clothing with expressive yet careful attention to color, line, and composition. In works like Metaphors don’t count (2011), he paints in an almost clipart-like style, a fusion that is at once playful and suggestive of the devaluation of art through processes of mass reproduction and proliferation.
House of Voltaire commissions and sells unique artworks, limited edition prints and specially–commissioned homewares, objects, clothing and accessories by world–renowned contemporary artists and designers. Everything on sale is one of a kind or limited edition, and exclusive to House of Voltaire. All sales directly support not-for-profit arts organisation Studio Voltaire’s exhibition, learning and studio programmes.
The first ever permanent House of Voltaire will open at Studio Voltaire in Clapham, London in 2021 following a £2.8 million Capital Project. First established in 2010, House of Voltaire occurred biennially as a temporary store in Mayfair and has had international presentations in Miami and Melbourne. Special projects have included Jeremy Deller's Fuck Brexit and Jeremy Deller's FUCK YOU 2020 and John Booth's The Artists' Bedroom. House of Voltaire can be shopped year–round online with global shipping.
