About the Work
House of Voltaire is pleased to introduce James Shaw's sculptural vase. Drawing references from the likes of Gunnar Anderson who worked at the start of the synthetic age, the vase is made from recycled plastics. This unique vase forms part of a special presentation by designer Shaw for House of Voltaire.
As part of his special presentation, Shaw invites visitors to his vivid living room installation. Featuring a collection of sculptural homewares, alongside a film produced with William Glass including a soundtrack by Kit Grill.
Entirely unique in design and form, each work has been created from recycled materials. A lesson in functional art, Shaw’s unexpected creations bring out the beauty and excitement of the waste material, transforming it into something of lasting interest and value.
All specially–commissioned works are available to purchase in–store and online, in support of Studio Voltaire’s artistic and public programmes.
About the Artist
James Shaw is a designer and a maker exploring the material landscape in a hands on way. His work aims to interrogate the material, systemic and formal approaches to the creation of objects. Frequently his work considers the resources around us challenging the notion of ‘waste’ to create new beautiful materials.
James has exhibited internationally and past awards include being nominated for the Design Museum Designs of the Year Award and winning the Arc Chair Design Award. His work is in the permanent collections of MoMA, The V&A, The Montreal Museum of Art, The Design Museum Ghent and The Museum of London among others.
House of Voltaire commissions and sells unique artworks, limited edition prints and specially–commissioned homewares, objects, clothing and accessories by world–renowned contemporary artists and designers.
