About the Work

Croydon Candles are handmade in small batches of similar design. No candle is the same as another, each a distinct aesthetic object.  

Our candles are made of 100% wax with no chemicals or additives. Consequently wax is displaced and drips when each candle burns - we recommended protecting your furniture from wax spills!  

The candles are either unscented or lightly scented with a combination of the following: cedarwood, sandalwood, oud, jasmine, seaspray, baby powder, patchouli, and fir pine. 

Croydon Candles are made from the following waxes, each selected for its distinctive properties and finish:

Beeswax is made from honeycomb. Denser and heavier than soy and paraffin, it’s the queen of waxes at CC. Naturally off-white in finish, Beeswax is hardy and durable and carries pigment exceptionally well.  

Kerawax is a blended paraffin wax mixture that gives a distinctive finish dependent on the temperature at which it is poured. A hot pour provides a distinctively slick glass-like result, translucent and smooth, while a cool pour gives a cracked effect that is semi-transparent and frost-like in finish.  

Soy wax is a vegetable wax derived from soybeans. It burns more slowly than paraffin wax and produces less smoke. It has a naturally bright white finish and is lighter and less dense than paraffin wax and beeswax.
