About the Artist

Tove Jansson (1914-2001) was a Finnish artist, illustrator and author who is prominently known as the creator of the Moomin characters and books. These stories follow a family of white, troll-like creatures that resemble upright hippopotamuses and their adventures in 'Moominvalley'. It's believed that these characters were inspired by members of Jansson own family, including her long-term partner Tuulikki Pietilä, all of whom were artists in their own respect and loved to be among nature.

House of Voltaire commissions and sells unique artworks, limited edition prints and specially–commissioned homewares, objects, clothing and accessories by world–renowned contemporary artists and designers.
