A unique hand-painted sculpture ‘Coat rack’ (2016) from Glasgow-based artist Hayley Tompkins. A painter in an unconventional sense, Tompkins has taken a quotidian object and re-configured the coat rack as a playful, painterly gesture in the theatre of the domestic. Articulating the relationship between design and purpose, the work calls into question an object’s supposed functionality and categorization.
