About the Artwork

John Booth presents a series of unique, hand-painted ceramic vases, exclusively for House of Voltaire.

London–based artist, illustrator, ceramicist and textile designer John Booth is known for graphic works which feature multi–layered collages of texture and colour. Booth draws inspiration from artists including Karel Appel and Betty Woodman, as well as from retro children’s playgrounds and postmodern Italian designers.

About the Artist

Born in Scotland in 1984 and raised in Cumbria, Booth moved to London in 2004, where he graduated with a BA in fashion print design at Central Saint Martins in 2009. He has since taught as a lecturer both at Central Saint Martins and the University of Westminster. Booth has worked for several fashion brands including Zandra Rhodes, John Galliano, Ashish, Christopher Shannon and most recently, Globetrotter and FENDI.

Studio Voltaire has been supporting artists for over twenty years, through our renowned programme of exhibitions, performances, events and education projects as well as providing affordable studios.

We have gained a reputation for championing both emerging and underrepresented artistic practices, often at key stage in the artist’s career. These have included Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Phyllida Barlow, Ruth Ewan, Elizabeth Price, Jo Spence, Joanne Tatham & Tom O’Sullivan, Richard Slee and Cathy Wilkes.

The gallery also provides an important UK platform for international artists, often providing them their first-ever presentation in the UK. These have included Nairy Baghramian, Thea Djordjadze, Nicole Eisenman, Judith Hopf, Paulina Olowska and Henrik Olesen.
