    About The Artwork

Inspired by conversations with members of the Gay Liberation Front including Andrew Lumsden, Stuart Feather and Nettie Pollard, this locally made soy wax candle evokes the scents and smells protestors recalled from the first Gay Pride march in the UK. The march took place on 1st July, 1972, intentionally aligned with the Stonewall Riots (28 June 1969). The march, a carnival of protest, ran from Trafalgar Square to Hyde park.
