About The Artwork

Hamilton is renowned for sculptures and installations that incorporate a rich tapestry of references from the worlds of art, fashion, design and cinema. Often making unexpected use of materials, ambience, scale and wit, her practice is rooted in multilayered strands of research. For this special edition, Hamilton has produced a limited-edition fan which appropriates the work of New York photographer Ken Haak. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed and numbered by the artist, in a presentation box. Hamilton's work holds an internal logic based on the cultural connections of things: the implicit subtext of an idea, the lineage and physical sensibilities of images, or the curiosity and adaptability of an object's ontology. The balance of materiality and economy is consistent with Hamilton's practice, where tactile surfaces are often conceived through digital production. Tracing the shifting usages and sensitivities of an image, Hamilton brings the frequencies of authenticity and artifice into plain relief - their competing status collapsing.
