About The Artwork
Wrap your baby or dog in this pure lambswool blanket, featuring Beryl Cook’s charming design, ‘Bertie and the Big Red Ball’ and available exclusively through House of Voltaire. Spun and knitted to order by master Scottish craftspeople using premium, high-quality yarns, this luxurious blanket features an exceptionally soft pile. Whether chosen as a thoughtful gift for a newborn or a cosy luxury for a beloved dog, it brings warmth and whimsical charm to any setting. The artwork is taken from Cook’s original 1982 cover illustration for the children’s book of the same name by Edward Lucie-Smith. Cook fondly remembered the real-life subject as a ‘rather naughty dog who belonged to a friend. He was obsessed by balls and would catch and destroy anything he could get his teeth into’. This painting reflects Cook’s ongoing ode to the ordinary, with her work celebrating everyday people and scenes.
