About The Artwork
A fan of people watching, Beryl Cook often painted groups of women on nights out. Piling in and out of taxis and buses or on their way into bars and pubs, joyful groups of friends huddle together, dressed to the nines and ready for a good night out. A lot of the interest for Cook was in the outfits. She enjoyed keeping up with the latest fashion trends and delighted in detailing how these partygoers dressed, as seen here in the delicately painted shoe straps, subtle fabric textures and carefully chosen accessories.
