On the left, a person in a leopard-print outfit and yellow high heels walks two small dogs by a pool, reminiscent of Beryl Cook's playful scenes in House of Voltaire's "Lady of Marseille." On the right, a black and white artwork from the same brand, titled "Untitled," much like Tom of Finland's iconic style, depicts a man's face seen through his bent knees from behind.

    About The Artwork

From 15 May - 25 August 2024 Studio Voltaire will bring cultural icons Beryl Cook and Tom of Finland together for the first time. The exhibition will showcase the distinct and coherent way both artists hyper-realise the body in images that fundamentally celebrate pleasure and deny shame, and will provide a significant refocus and reveal interconnected ideas surrounding gender, sexuality, taste and class. This ambitious two-person presentation includes many original works and archival materials from private collections across the UK, USA and Germany which the public have never seen. By purchasing these fundraising editions, you will directly help realise this ambitious exhibition.
