About The Artwork
Clive Hodgson's abstract paintings playfully investigate symmetry and repetition, often deliberately making use of decorative forms as a way of refusing meaning. Frequently, both the artist's signature and the date of the painting are given prominent placement, becoming a significant part of the canvas's content. In Mirror/Pool, light reflected from a small mirror becomes a spotlight for Hodgson’s signature, similarly placing what is usually peripheral at the centre of the work.
