About The Artwork
Playing with classic slapstick tropes, the main figure of this work is a 'totem pole trench' - a mustached man with unnatural height and little eyes peering through the gaps of his coat. Playful and surreal, this work is situated with Drury's wider practice of upending traditional forms of still-life and portraiture.
About Dickon Drury
Dickon Drury (b. 1986) is a British artist known for his vibrant, large-scale paintings of interior spaces. Each of Drury’s compositions is cluttered with its absent residents’ everyday belongings, pop culture influences, art historical references and signifiers of the artists’ lived experiences.
Drury has shown across the UK and Europe with galleries such as Koppe Astner, Glasgow; Safehouse 2, London; Galleri Opdahl, Berlin; and Carlos Ishikawa, London.
He is represented by Kendall Koppe and Galleri Opdahl.
