Exclusive to House of Voltaire, this drawing by Lativian-born artist Ella Kruglyanskaya is characteristic of her oeuvre which confronts cultural tropes head on, engaging with voyeurism and exhibitionism with a strong sense of humour. Central to this unique graphite work by Kruglyanskaya is a playfully exaggerated feminine figure. The artist’s repetition of the figure’s hands clutching at a bouquet of flowers imbues the work with an illustrative and sketchy quality. Drawing inspiration from advertising from the 1950’s and 60’s, Kruglyanskaya’s character confronts the viewer with a seductive gaze as she peers out from behind her coiffured hair.
