About The Artwork

Latvian-born painter Ella Kruglyanskaya is well-known for her large-scale works depicting vibrant, feminine figures. Kruglyanskaya’s work confronts cultural tropes head-on, engaging with voyeurism and exhibitionism with a strong sense of humour. As with most of Kruglyanskaya’s work, this graphite drawing is dominated by feminine figures. Entwined in an embrace or dance, the two characters mirror each other as they step inward and rest hands on each other’s shoulder, excluding the viewer. Similarly to many other works by the artist, the viewer of this scene becomes a voyeur as the couple bow heads, eyes closed.
