      About The Artwork

'Objects of Significance' delves into objects imbued with personal meaning, exploring themes of relationships, memories and existential inquiries. With a blend of humour and profundity, Vater poses contemplative questions such as: "What do you see when you close your eyes and turn your head toward the sun?" and "How much does a cloud weigh?" He engages in imaginative dialogues, including an interview with the North Sea and reflections on the nature of art and the essence of voids.

      About Markus Vater

Markus Vater (b. 1970) is a German artist whose multi-disciplinary practice shifts easily between diverse artistic mediums and genres. His work investigates the oddities and constructs surrounding contemporary human life: from social relationships to religion, dreams, perception, and absurd everyday situations. This broad range of medium and artistic focus is elegantly explored with Vater’s unique sense of humour, poetic use of texts, and delicate construction of visual worlds.

Vater has taught and exhibited extensively, showing with institutions and galleries such as Drawing Biennial, London; Sprengel Museum, Hannover; Saatchi Gallery, London; Kunstmix, Copenhagen; Arusha Gallery, Edinburgh; me Collectors Room, Berlin, and Union Gallery, London.

Vater is represented by Galerie Rupert Pfab and Galerie Peter Zimmerman.
