    About The Artwork

    Created in response to Luigi Russolo’s 1911 painting ‘Music’, Patrizio di Massimo’s edition ‘Insteps and Ladybird’ is the latest work in a series in which the ladybird appears as a protective motif, an emblem of luck and joy. Its diminutive scale, set against the more prominent figure of an en pointe ballet dancer, creates a precarious dynamic and a delicate tension. For his edition for House of Voltaire, di Massimo has meticulously hand-painted a ladybird onto each print in oil paint, resulting in subtle variations and a unique encounter between dancer and beetle in every work in the edition.
