About The Artwork
Hawkins' work is rooted in collage and the provocation of juxtaposition. In this new limited edition print, distorted streetwear images of Hollywood “bad boys”, theme park horror characters and catalogue models are loaded on top of a cut-up Joan Miró painting. The edition is built up with silver gloss layers, highlighting the status of its protagonists and reflecting the viewer back into the composition. Speaking to the fetishism of celebrity in the digital age, ‘Troublemakers’ captures the vibrant psychodrama of kitsch Pop that dominates Hawkins' practice. This edition has been made especially on the occasion of Studio Voltaire's 30th Anniversary. Throughout the anniversary year, a series of limited edition works by leading international artists are being released to raise important funds for Studio Voltaire's artistic and community programmes.
