Celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2024, Studio Voltaire has invited many major artists to revisit and reimagine some of their previous House of Voltaire releases for our “Greatest Hits”. Gander has produced a new a candle following on from his original candle 'There will come a slowness and you should prepare for that also' from 2019. 'The scent of the artist's monograph' is a fresh yet earthy scent inspired by the smell of an artist's book, printed using an offset lithography process by a high quality German printer, then subsequently stored in boxes in a slightly damp warehouse for a number of years.
About Ryan Gander
Ryan Gander (b. 1976) is a British conceptual artist known internationally for his cross-disciplinary practice: through film, sculpture, writing, graphic design, installation, performance, and more, Gander explores the everyday and esoteric in a “non-style” of artistic practice. He has been awarded an OBE for his services to contemporary art, an RA Elect for sculpture, and an honorary Doctorate of Arts from Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Suffolk.
Gander has exhibited extensively on an international basis and is held in a large number of public collections, including that of the Arts Council Collection, London, UK; The National Museum of Art, Osaka, Japan; Tate Collection, London, UK; Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Barcelona; Museum of Modern Art, New York City; Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City; and the British Council, London.
